Do you constantly put other people’s needs ahead of your own? Feel guilty saying no, even when you're burned out? Struggle to express what you really think or feel, especially in your close relationships?

If that sounds familiar, you may be dealing with codependency. And no, that doesn’t make you weak, broken, or needy. It means you’ve learned to survive by keeping the peace, staying small, and prioritizing others over yourself. But that survival strategy may now be getting in the way of the life and relationships you actually want.

At Bianca VonBank Therapy, I help women break free from the exhausting cycles of people-pleasing, self-doubt, and toxic relationship patterns. With expert therapy for codependency, you’ll learn how to set healthy boundaries, speak your truth, and connect to your own needs without guilt, fear, or shame.

Codependency 101

Because Saying No is Self-Care, Not a Crime

  • Codependency is not just about relationships, it’s about how you relate to yourself.

It often shows up as chronic caretaking, rescuing, or staying in relationships that are one-sided, emotionally unavailable, or even abusive. While it used to be primarily associated with addiction, we now know codependency is common in a range of relational dynamics, including romantic partnerships, friendships, families, and workplaces.

    People struggling with codependency often:

    • Feel responsible for other people’s emotions

    • Avoid conflict to keep the peace

    • Struggle with low self-worth and self-neglect

    • Feel anxious, guilty, or resentful in relationships

    • Lose their sense of identity trying to meet everyone else’s needs

    • You put others' needs before your own, often to your own detriment

    • You feel anxious in relationships and crave validation

    • You find it hard to say no, even when you're depleted

    • You struggle to communicate your thoughts or needs directly

    • You absorb others' emotions as your own

    • You feel responsible for fixing or managing others’ problems

    • You fear being alone or abandoned

    • You experience guilt or shame when prioritizing yourself

    • You often feel resentful, underappreciated, or emotionally drained

    • Your relationships tend to be intense, one-sided, or chaotic

    • You feel stuck in a caretaker or “therapist” role in your relationships

  • Codependent patterns often begin in childhood, especially in families where emotional needs were unmet, boundaries were blurred, or you had to “earn” love or approval. If you grew up with a parent who struggled with mental illness, trauma, addiction, or emotional immaturity, you may have learned that staying small, helpful, or invisible kept you safe.

Over time, this survival mode can morph into chronic self-neglect, people-pleasing, and toxic relationship dynamics. Healing requires compassion, clarity, and the courage to start choosing yourself. Therapy is where that healing can begin.

My Approach

to Codependency Treatment

As a codependency therapist I take a modern, integrative, and deeply compassionate approach. I work with women who are ready to stop over-functioning in their relationships and finally put themselves first. Without guilt or apology.

My approach combines Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), attachment theory, and nervous system education to help you heal from the inside out. We’ll explore how your past shaped your current patterns, while also building the real-world skills to shift your relationships and reconnect with your inner compass.

In Our Work Together, You’ll Learn How To:

  • Set and protect your personal boundaries with clarity and strength

  • Prioritize self-care without guilt or apology

  • Challenge the beliefs that fuel your people-pleasing

  • Communicate your needs with confidence and calm

  • Reconnect with your intuition and emotional truth

  • Let go of the roles that are no longer serving you — caretaker, fixer, rescuer

  • Feel more secure, grounded, and empowered in every area of your life
